1. Anchor Text

Google are now relying less and less on keywords in anchor text as a ranking signal. Links should be built in large chunks or relevant text using anchor texts like “Click here for more information” or using the company name.

2. Out of Stock Items

If an item is out of stock and is unlikely to come back into stock remember to 301 redirect this to the category. If it is going to come back into stock but not for a while, use a 302 redirect.

In the most recent algorithm change nicknames ‘Penguin’ Google has decided to penalize websites that are over optimizing. This includes keyword stuffing, too many links containing the same anchor text and buying links. Concentrate more on content, building natural links and using social channels.

7. Keep your site ticking over

One of Googles latest algorithm changes favors websites that have fresh and up to date content. Use a Blog to keep adding content to your website and then add a feed on your homepage to keep the homepage looking fresh.

8. Pagination

One of the main problems for SEO is duplicate content. When a category has numerous pages be sure to create a view all page and use a canonical tag to avoid pagination issues.

9. Stop spamming social networks

Don’t just use Twitter, Facebook and Google+ to post numerous links to your website. Engage in conversation with your followers, post interesting content and remember to still use some keywords. Use competitions to build up a large following, but make sure you give away desirable prizes.

10. Remove your low quality links

Since the penguin update has arrived it has become even more important to remove your low quality links. Contact web masters and ask them to remove your links. If you can’t get them removed, try to build high quality links to outweigh the low quality ones.
